It depends on the roof area that drains to each gutter, the roof pitch, and how many downspouts serve it. Many commercial roofs need 6-inch or larger gutters with oversized downspouts. We size each run from the roof area it drains.

Can you repair commercial gutters instead of replacing them?

Often, yes. Leaking seams, loose hangers, damaged downspouts and overflow at corners can usually be repaired. We recommend replacement when gutters are rusted through, undersized for the roof, or failing in many places.

How much does commercial gutter replacement cost?

It depends on the length of the runs, gutter size and material, the number of downspouts, building height and access. We give a written quote after a site visit, and can price several buildings together for property managers.

Do you replace gutters at the same time as a commercial roof?

SPG Roofing & Exteriors installs, repairs and replaces gutters on commercial buildings across Central Indiana. Commercial Gutter Installation

A new commercial gutter system starts with the roof it drains. We measure the roof area that feeds each run, look at where water already overflows or pools, and size the gutters and downspouts to match. Larger roofs usually need 6-inch or wider gutters, more downspouts, and larger downspout outlets than a house would.

On buildings with a parapet or a low-slope roof, water often leaves through scuppers or internal drains rather than eave gutters. In those cases we install collector boxes and downspouts at the scuppers, so the water is carried to grade instead of sheeting down the wall. Because we install commercial roofs too, the gutters, edge metal and roof membrane are detailed to work together.

Commercial Gutter Repair

Many commercial gutter problems can be repaired without replacing the whole system: leaking seams and end caps, sections that have pulled away from the fascia, sagging runs that hold water, crushed or disconnected downspouts, and overflow at inside corners. We find the cause first, because overflow is often a sizing or downspout problem rather than a damaged gutter.

If the damage came from hail or wind, we document it with photos and measurements. 30 of our commercial gutter jobs were insurance claims, and we work directly with the adjuster on the scope.

Commercial Gutter Replacement

Replacement makes sense when gutters are rusted through, undersized for the roof, or patched so many times that leaks keep returning. It is also the right time to fix drainage that never worked: adding downspouts, moving outlets away from entrances and walkways, and tying downspouts into existing underground drains where the property has them.

If the roof is near the end of its life, replacing the roof and gutters together usually costs less than doing them separately and avoids removing new gutters to reach the roof edge later. 55 of our 77 commercial gutter jobs included roofing work.
