What's the difference between VersiWeld TPO and VersiGard EPDM?

VersiWeld TPO is usually white and reflective, with heat-welded seams. VersiGard EPDM is a black rubber membrane with taped or adhered seams that often costs less up front. The right choice depends on budget, roof complexity, rooftop traffic and energy goals.

How long do Versico membranes last?

As general industry figures, well-maintained TPO, EPDM and PVC roofs commonly last 20 to 30 years or more. Installation quality, drainage and maintenance make a big difference.

Are heat-welded seams better than taped seams?

A properly heat-welded seam fuses the membrane together, with no adhesive to age. Taped EPDM seams have a long track record too when installed correctly. Seam quality depends on installation either way.

What warranty comes with a Versico roof?

Warranties are issued by Versico, and the terms and eligibility depend on the system, the project and the installing contractor. Ask for the specific warranty in writing before you sign. We will tell you which options are available for your roof.

Does a white TPO roof lower cooling costs?

VersiWeld TPO

TPO is a single-ply membrane, usually white, with heat-welded seams. The reflective surface absorbs less heat than a dark roof, which can lower cooling loads. TPO is the system we quote most often on commercial flat roofs. See TPO roofing for more.

VersiGard EPDM

EPDM is a rubber membrane with a long track record on commercial roofs. It is usually black, and its seams are joined with tape or adhesive rather than welded. Fleece-backed versions add puncture resistance and can be adhered directly over some substrates. See EPDM roofing for more.

VersiFlex PVC

PVC membranes have heat-welded seams like TPO and resist many chemicals, oils and greases, which is why PVC is often chosen for restaurants and buildings with rooftop exhaust. PVC usually costs more than TPO or EPDM.

Warranties

Manufacturer warranties on commercial roofs are issued by the manufacturer, not the contractor. The terms, length and eligibility depend on the system, the project and the installing contractor, and many require an inspection by the manufacturer after installation. Before you sign, ask any contractor which manufacturer warranty they can provide for your roof and get it in writing. We will tell you up front which warranty options are available for your project.
