Roof Leaking in Tonight's Storms? Free Inspections Now Available

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for all of Central Indiana from 5 PM through late tonight, with 1–2 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts. Prolonged, heavy rain exposes roof leaks and water intrusion that stay hidden in dry weather. If water is getting into your home, schedule a free roof inspection today.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the National Weather Service in Indianapolis issued a Flood Watch covering all of Central Indiana, in effect from 5 PM through late tonight. Forecasters expect 1–2 inches of rain with locally higher amounts in excess of 4 inches, and warn that excessive runoff may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Heavy, sustained rain is one of the most reliable ways to discover a compromised roof: water works through worn flashing, lifted or missing shingles, failed seals, and aging valleys, then shows up as ceiling stains, dripping, or damp drywall hours later. If you live anywhere in Central Indiana — Indianapolis, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Zionsville, Greenwood, Franklin, Plainfield, Avon, Brownsburg, Mooresville, Greenfield, Shelbyville, Anderson, Columbus, Bloomington, Lafayette, or Terre Haute — and you see signs of water intrusion during or after tonight's storms, SPG Roofing & Exteriors is offering free roof and exterior inspections.
What's Happening

June 17 Flood Watch for All of Central Indiana

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for all of Central Indiana on the afternoon of June 17, 2026, in effect from 5 PM through late tonight. Total rainfall of 1–2 inches is expected, with locally higher amounts in excess of 4 inches where thunderstorms train over the same areas. The NWS warns that excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Slow-moving thunderstorms can drop a large volume of water in a short window, and a roof that handles a normal shower can leak under hours of steady, wind-driven rain. The point to watch for is interior water — stains on a ceiling, drips at a light fixture, or damp spots around a chimney or skylight are signs that water has already found a path past the roof surface.

Why It Matters

Heavy Rain Reveals Damage You Can't See From the Ground

Most roof leaks start small and invisible. Worn or lifted flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights, cracked pipe boots, displaced or missing shingles, and aging valleys all let water in once rainfall is heavy and sustained enough. From the driveway, the roof looks fine. Inside, the first sign is often a faint ceiling stain or a musty smell — and by then water may have been tracking through your decking and insulation for hours. Acting quickly matters: trapped moisture leads to rot, mold, and damaged drywall and insulation that cost far more to fix than the original leak. Our inspectors go up on the roof, trace the actual entry point, and photograph and document what they find so you know exactly what is wrong and what it will take to fix it.

Storm Roof Damage vs. Flooding — and What Insurance Covers

It helps to understand the difference. Damage to your roof and exterior from wind-driven rain, hail, or fallen limbs is generally addressed under a standard homeowners policy, and when there is a covered loss we document the damage, file the claim, and meet your adjuster on-site — most homeowners pay only their deductible. Rising-water or ground flooding (water entering from the outside at grade) is different: it is typically excluded from homeowners insurance and is only covered if you carry separate flood insurance. We will not overpromise on coverage. What we will do is inspect your roof and exterior at no cost, tell you plainly what caused the water intrusion, and help you pursue an insurance claim where one legitimately applies.

Wind damage to my roof and two interior rooms brought both a quick insurance claim and an equally quick estimate from SPG Roofing & Exteriors. Chris Sheets was instrumental in helping my insurer reach a more fair estimate, then Derek managed the scheduling and quality control of the workers who replaced my roof and renovated my two guest bedrooms.
