What the National Weather Service Recorded

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis confirmed three tornadoes from the June 17-18 storms: an EF-2 near Spencer in Owen County, an EF-1 near Riley in Vigo County, and an EF-1 near Kurtz in Jackson County. A 60 mph gust was measured at Terre Haute, and trees and power lines came down in many counties, including Johnson, Shelby and Bartholomew.

Around Indianapolis the bigger story was rain. One gauge near Edgewood in Marion County recorded 4.10 inches in about 20 hours, and Plainfield recorded 2.77 inches. A roof that handles a normal shower can leak under hours of steady, wind-driven rain. Watch for stains on a ceiling, drips at a light fixture, or damp spots around a chimney or skylight.
