Signs of Window Damage

There are many things to look for in your home to ensure it’s all in top shape. Maybe you’re dealing with a leak in your gutters from that last Indiana storm, or you’re noticing water pooling in your basement. Your windows may start to be overlooked. However, it’s important to pay attention to them because if there’s any damage, it could lead to some major problems down the line.

There are several important signs of window damage that you should look for or should address soon if you happen to notice any of them. If you notice any of these signs, it’s time to call SPG for an inspection and possibly some new windows. The first sign is rotting wood. Wood rot may not be something you immediately associate with your windows, but if you see soft, cracked, or warped wood in the frames of your windows, then it’s time to contact us.

Damaged frames are one of the more obvious signs of window damage. Whether the frames are cracking, chipping, or shifting, problems with the panes can eventually lead to other problems. If your window’s frames are damaged, it could lead to low energy maintenance or poor insulation. Some other signs associated with this include mold, mildew, and humidity within your home or on your windows.

Another sign of window damage is frost or condensation between the panes of your windows. If you’re noticing this fogginess that you can’t seem to clean off, it could mean that your window’s seals are failing. This can not only be unattractive, but it is also a sign that it’s time for a window replacement.

If you’re noticing that noises from outside are louder than usual or you’re feeling a draft in your home, then it could be a sign of window damage. Your windows may feel sticky or difficult to open and close if they require replacement. In addition, if you live in an older home, your windows may be getting old or are low quality. If you’re experiencing any of these issues, a window replacement may be necessary.

Why Replace Your Windows?

Depending on the damage to your windows, new ones may be necessary. There could be several reasons why your windows may have become damaged, and if you’re noticing issues, it is better to address the issues sooner rather than later.

One major reason for replacing your windows and ensuring they’re working as well as they can be is your energy bills. If air conditioning or heat is escaping through cracks and damaged windows, your bills may be increasing. If your windows are damaged, your home’s energy efficiency could suffer. It will cost more money to heat your home, as the cold outside air leaks in or indoor heat leaks out.

In addition, investing in the aesthetic look of your home can increase your home’s value. If you invest in new windows that make your home more appealing, it can only add to your property value. Even if you’re not planning to move anytime soon and your home’s value isn’t vital to you, new windows that are doing their job are essential to your home and your comfort.

Types of Window Styles

The window style options are endless. Whether you’re looking to change the look of your windows or get more efficient windows, there are a few styles to choose from. A few options include double-hung windows, casement windows, bay windows, and picture windows. Double-hung windows offer a more traditional look, and Casement windows are a more energy-efficient option. Bay windows offer a beautiful look, while picture windows allow for the perfect showcasing of a beautiful view.

Some more options include sliding windows, specialty windows, and awning windows. Sliding windows maximize your view, while awning windows allow for easy opening and work well in areas hard to reach. Specialty windows offer many different styles, from arch tops to round windows. SPG can work with you to install the windows of your dreams.
